Magick, as i see it, is instinctual to all human beings. Everyone does it, unknowingly, under the guise of other things. To me, magick is a deep understanding of the mechanics, dynamics and meanings of controlling trigger-response mechanisms in the mind.

Example: one day i was looking at a tank full of water, while talking about a certain subject. a couple of weeks later i remembered the well, and ended up remembering what i was talking about, however trivial it seemed then.

The magician is the one who encrypts chosen meanings into certain symbols (words, objects, images, mental or otherwise), and by doing so possesses a tool, which he can apply to the interaction between Inner and Outer realms of existence. The magician is he who can ground himself to the poing where he is most able to use his magical tools, unnafected by the "demons" of volatile emotions and states. He is the one that takes this "use" of magical tools to the limit, therefore thinking according to an alphabet of mental images and symbols that he himself created, his own Cosmos; unlike most. The magician conditions himself, by his own will and learnings. Most of mankind react according to strictly programmed patterns to the world outside and inside.

Trained, conditioned by others; the most dangerous of all these "trainers" are the "elites", who through the media, social memes, and the intromission into "tribal" dynamics and most importantly LANGUAGE have made man oblivious to the power he should have over himself and his faculties. These are sometimes refered to by some as Black Sorcerers, those who use magick for their own gain, in spite of potential suffering caused.

So, the aspiring magician, by striving to attain an understanding both the Inner and Outer dimension of everything, probably can understand better the symbolic teachings of many cultures and mystical schools; probably could take important lessons from nature; probably can analyze more lucidly his relationship with the world around him (by virtue of the trigger-response mechanism); be able to reach deep into the realms of his unconscious mind and salvage meaning from the multitude of symbolic images there presented.

Ultimately, he may become complete Lord of Himself, which i doubt anyone in this world is at this time.
Any thoughts guys?

You have put into words what I had in my heart. That was insightful and poetic. I have one question and one comment. The question is do you think these "Black magicians" that have media control and mass control are the same people as the "Illuminati"? The comment is that I don't remember who said it, but someone once said that all people use the law of attraction, even if they've never heard of it. When you said all people use magick that's what I thought of. Even people like Christians, through prayer, perform magick. The results they get and attribute to God are actually %100 their creation. Just a thought.

Yeah, i think one may refer to such a group as the illuminatti. I think the reason there is such secrecy and hierarchy among such groups is to protect knowledge that has come to them from very very ancient times; IMO from Atlantean times, when man actually saw and used magic in the same way we today see science. Bloodlines and secret groups protect such wisdom, and they undoubtedly have used it to have their way with us ,"goyim" since the dawn of history. They are no more than we are, only that they have been exposed to and been initiated to more and different ways of seeing thins.

when i say everyone uses magic i was thinking to the extent where people intuitively and automaticly associate things in their mind. You listen to a dark jazzy song, you CONJURE (not innocent placement of words) an image of a dude sipping scotch in a dark, wodden environment, eying a femme fatalle on the bar. A muslim is conditioned to conjure up feelings of hate and anger when hearing "Muhhamed is gay". A Christian who hammers a certain prayer into his mind will live according to such a prayer, therefore living through the teachings that jesus walks on water, unquestionably. Social memes do this, the Media do this, Religion as you well said also does this. This far, i would call this conditioning. Mass Control, Propaganda.

Magick, in my eyes, would be when i train myself to Reason, Intelligence, incisiveness, Rationality, Strenght, to the symbol of a Sword. Then, when i am well enough trained, i need only remember a sword and a feeling of rational capability takes over. Like auto propaganda, creative inteligent propaganda. But this is different from just the law of attraction, for example, in the sense where you dont actually wish or want anything, but you analyze everything seeking to gain insight everywhere. That would be the true gain of such an activity. so see both inner and outer layers of a symbol (here Jung, Freud and Reich have been geniouses in speaking of this). For example, the unpleasant feeling i had a while ago was simultaneous with my noticing of a discussion between my folks. That may have, by repetitive triggering of the same response over the years, lead to a certain posture of mine relating to conflicts, relationships and sexuality. In the long run, one can eventually come to do as the old greek adage said, Know thyself.

This thread, especially the first post, is intelligent and well written. Fraga, your profile says you're from Portugal. If English isn't your first language, I commend you. Multilingualism is something I find very impressive. In my experience, multilingual individuals tend to be some of the most intelligent, inquisitive, and interesting people you can find.

But that's beside the point.

One thing I really enjoyed about the initial post was the bit about everyone using magic without knowing it. This is entirely true. It's what the entire Advertising and Public Relations industries are based on(not that the people in that industry have any more clue than the average consumer.)

What's unfortunate is that Mass Ignorant Magic which you brought up is what forms societies, definitions of humanity, and even 'reality.' The radio, the television, and social media; they're giant magical engines driving home the consensus reality. Of course, their polarity could be reversed, and they could be turned into engines of reality decentralization, but that's a dream at this point(or is it?)

One question I have, however, is what do you consider the limits of magic to be? As is in the topic title, your views of magic are very practical, and I like that. It shows that you're grounded in reason and self-observation. But I'm curious as to what you think the occult can and can't accomplish.

Yup, I agree completely. Magick is a way of dealing with reality - both internal and external. The difficult part is the implicit statement that we are dealing with it in the first place; it is not just happening to us.

Fraga wrote:The magician conditions himself, by his own will and learnings. Most of mankind react according to strictly programmed patterns to the world outside and inside.

I find this to be shifty territory because the harder I look, the more difficult it is to find the line between conditioning myself out of my own volition and reacting to patterns of reality. You might assume another to be "programmed", just as they view you to be batshit insane. Whatever they are doing, they are feeding the pattern that serves them. It doesn't have to be pleasant to be of service, it's enough just to be a matter of justification, safety and familiarity. If it doesn't serve, there is another programming of reaching for highly unusual ways of dealing with reality... Does that make the alternative better?

The elites are servants of the highest order, buttlickers and slaves to the most banal and fickle interests of the mass. They condition eachother and both benefit from it. To call them black sorcerers is giving them an undeserved compliment, but I guess that the whole expression is a decent example of intrapersonal symbiotic magick.

Hey Mohz, tottally agree with you; everyone of us is programmed; thats why i call the magician the one who defines and rules such programmes on their totality, and tend to think of people like us as aspiring magicians, not fully apt mages.
Thanks for the compliment, question Smile
In my opinion, the limits of magic are the same as the limits of the imagination.
My long-term goal/dream, the utmost aspiration of wich i fantasize in my ramblings of imagination would be to become that of wich the tales of old speak about. The ultimate Sage/Mage/Priest-King. The alchemical gold, the Man-god, the Uber-man, the Gnostic Christ. The philosophers stone.

What this would accomplish would be a human being of the utmost power, and by the same measure, of the utmost wiseness and peace.

Power because of the dominion over the mechanisms of the mind and therefore external things (because of wise realizations of similarity or sameness between the two, i would speculate). This power is somewhat emulated (and only emulated) by the elites, who try to mimic this to their advantage, as we've discussed. And a Wisdom that gives an understanding of the world that is unbound, undisturbed by the ramblings of a wounded verbal animal that we are all inside. This would be a being of utmost kindness, power, equilibrium. Being able to use his power wisely, and his wisdom being what keeps him in possession of such a power; power that Rules over the mental ghosts and demons that the elites cast upon us.

Think about your worse fear. It's likely different than mine. The individual is the defining factor in interacting with "Ghosts" and "Spirits" (not to say that they exist only on the mind and are devoid of physical presence; but then again, isn't the above the same as the below, and the inside as the out?).

I read somewhere that while mankind lives bound and struggling with "demons" and such, and is ruled by those who make pacts with such entities (sometimes gone wrong), the true magician is one who Rules over such entities, therefore claiming his heritage as the true Son of Man. To rule over such entities means to own oneself; banning all parasitic and intruding demons that torment Man. To do this by sheer force of will, to use one's intellectual faculties unbounded by more primal insecurities or wants... this is true freedom, the kingdom of heavens. Whose ruling king is but a usurper, a steward with shadowy advisors. a shadow on the wall of a cave, that trembles with every breeze that shakes the flame. our complexed and infantile ego.

Let us try to understand ourselves in function of the world and the world in function of us, and claim what is ours by birthright to accomplish the miracle of the one thing. That is happening as we speak, timeless, spaceless, eventless, infinitely, inside and out..
blablabla on both that are one. lol. It's hard not to be redundant or verbose, because this is a thing that i approach by means of hunches, feelings, things that stem out of direct communication with reality, rather than by intense intellectual inquiry (though it helps). And i'm as flawed as the next guy in terms of being bound by demon spirits, so without more ado, that's it. Kisses and hugs

Fraga, I really enjoyed reading your motivations and your long-term goal. I've got kind of the same approach actually. I totally agree that it is a combination of peace and effortlessness that is a true mark of power. It is not important to make sense all of the time, sometimes we touch deeper truths when we don't.
